Andrius Arutiunian
A composer and sound artist who currently lives and works in the Netherlands.
Arutiunian’s installation Armen is based on music created by popular music producers of the Armenian diaspora. Because of the Armenian Genocide and the waves of emigration that followed, today, Armenia has one of the largest diasporas in the world. Using audio and video material created by Armenian diaspora musicians in the 1970s and 1980s, Arutiunian recomposed fragments of their pop and disco found on tapes and vinyl, along with the original texture, noise and glitches of the mediums. The audio element of the installation is presented on vinyl, thus returning the musical material to its original analogue format.
