Gabrielė Adomaitytė
She graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2017 and participated in “De Ateliers” residency in Amsterdam.
In Gabrielė Adomaityte’s work painting is used as a kind of filter, simultaneously abstracting and developing images, which emerge from deep-seated personal experiences and family associations. The starting point for the work lies in repainted ultrasound sonograms of the artist’s mother’s heart and her father’s collection of VHS tapes – objects which lose their original functions and attain new forms and purposes dissolved in abstraction. Approaching Dreams and Desires is like zooming into a digital or printed image, which obstructs the ability of the eye to see the whole but enhances the materiality and importance of details. Both canvases in the series are like corresponding but separate channels, displaying painterly gesture and traces of experience instead of a specific image.
